Ruth from afar

If you had to say what you want to do next week?

What would it be something to do with?
a) Go to the Hayward Gallery and see Anthony Gormley
piece........something about immersion, perception, seeing, suprise,
inspiration, subtle altering the landscape, scale

b) Explore the The role of dramaturg in dance/theatre... I'd like to
explore/test/examine the scope specifically of my creative input in the
role of 'dramaturg' with Charlotte as choreographer/director .but also
of that relationship between choreographer and dramaturg in
general..... looking at how/what the role/voice of the dramaturg might
be, might bring to an exercise, to a day, to a project in the
future...... looking at its boundaries/ remit.... ie is it just a
responsive role ? is it a suggestive role ? can it even be defined?
are there any general guidelines for this role/ relationship....
etc....

This comes up because in thinking about answering this question I
suddenly feel a bit like I did in the second week... '\whats my role
this week? cos that would probably determine what I might suggest...
I think this is because I am a primary creator in my own right so with
one hat on I could propose some material/topics/text that I think would
be interesting to explore next week .....but I dont feel I am being
asked to be part of the R and D because of that primary creating role
or those skills which is totally fine........ so I'm then drawn to
think that I'd want to do something next week that focuses on the role
that I was invited to play briefly in broken chords and one that I
have often informally found myself in over the years...a role that
covers dramaturgy /group process/critical friend/ outside eye/chairing
even conflict resolution... it would be interesting to explore where
being a primary creator ends and a dramturg begins..... Its a role
thats so underused in this country but in Europe its much more
commonplace...and I am not an expert on it at all so have no models
really to go by!

What would it be nothing to do with?
football........shakespeare.....fourth wall acting.........

How would you start at the beginning of this?
I'd suggest an experiment where the exploration of that
role/relationship between the creative leader ( choregorapher/
director/task setter whatever you want to call it ) was put into
'major'.... and the potential work being looked at/ discussed etc...
more into 'minor' in order to be able to slow down and discuss that
relationship and what it adds/ brings/ to the creation of ideas/work as
it happens........ so perhaps a whole day where charlotte and I
collaborate from the beginning and end of the day ... and in some ways
explore/ make some work together ... ..... maybe others could take
these two roles and do this too....

How would you simplify?

Ruth and Charlotte... plan and deliver a practical making day focusing
on dramaturg/ choregrapher roles/ relationship.. testing and exploring
what it is what it brings what its value and use is... and for the rest
of the company to reflect and discuss this at intervals throughout the
day in a fairly structured sense... maybe same set of questions that
get answered at 2/3 times in the day...

We will start at 10 am with a 20 min chat then warm up for an hour
then have a 30 minute jam the talk through current options.
