Day 11

Day 11

Morning – Scott’s class accompanied by Alex on cello. ( set of exercises focused on what happens/ shifts inside the body and how it translates to the movement. Working from inside – out. Scott- The purpose was to engage and meditate and allow to find somebody else’s appetites. )

Conversation about differences within languages (sound and physical)
W.- It took me quite a while to get to the idea of life music with this class, as I have found at times almost confusing the breath from music was different from natural breath of the exercise.

Alex- I tried to transform the physical task to the sound-scape.
One sound can be perceived differently depending on somebody’s feelings.

Does the music lead the movement or the other way round?

A.- I played the sound version of what you (Scott) were saying during the class, trying to search for most appropriate sound, and when I felt I found it I could stop and move on.
S. – I’ve got a question about all electronic equipment.. because the sounds become fixed, one organize himself, and repeat something from loop station what was 5 mins ago, loop station can become static, the same like choreography.

-Why do we need repetition? Does it become more meaningful when it is repeated?
C.-Repetition becomes a process of understanding what was the process of making choices.
- Act of repetition – is it looking for what is constant or what is changing?
C.-Fixing can be he background for seeing what else is bashing against it.
P.- Dance and music are ephemeral (unlike photo for example), so maybe repetition is a battle against varnishing?

If one record a performance it becomes something else.
Disappearing of the performance as a value.
People want simply to remember things.
How to make a repetition alive?
How much a REPETITION can be a free, moving form?

To use environment to bring the stimulation to the form.
Clearing your body from the last heard sound.
